Hints on Submitting Supporting Documentation to SARS

When we submit supporting documentation to SARS, we need to make sure that the documents meet the requirements and have uploaded in a clear and understandable manner.

We also need to make sure that documents with passwords are converted and uploaded correctly.

We usually use the assessment and go down the items included in the tax return and make sure all supporting documents are included and uploaded to SARS.

If we don’t do this, the client will highly likely be audited by SARS again and additional supporting documents will be requested until SARS has obtained enough support to substantiate their query/question.

SARS also has the right to do an additional assessment on the basis that not enough supporting documentation was obtained initially to substantiate a deduction.

It is very important that we obtain all the documents required and comply with SARS’ standards to avoid unnecessary hassle for both the client and ourselves.

If SARS does do an additional assessment, an objection needs to be done on the additional assessment and this will mean additional time will need to be spent to resolve the matter.
