Summary of the statement by Cyril Ramaphosa that could help our clients and SME’s:

The government is providing seed capital of R150 million, but we don’t know yet how this will be distributed or what the criteria is.

  • The government is consulting on special dispensation for companies that are distressed because of COVID-19.

  • Any employee who falls ill through exposure at their workplace will be able to claim from Workmen’s Compensation

  • There will be a tax subsidy of up to R500 per month for the next 4 months for private sector employees earning below R6500 under the Employment tax incentive scheme.

  • There will be an acceleration for the payment of employment tax incentive reimbursements from twice a year to monthly.

  • Tax compliant business with a turnover of less than R50 million will be allowed to delay 20% of their PAYE liabilities over the next 4 months, and a portion of their provisional corporation tax payments (due in August 2020) without penalties and interest over the next 6 months.

  • They are exploring the temporary reduction of employers and employee UIF contributions monthly

  • The Department of Small Business Development has made over R500 million available immediately to assist SME’s that are distressed through a simplified application process.

The above means that UIF payments will be decreased, PAYE payments monthly for employers will decrease and low-income earners will possibly get R500 per month extra.

The above assistance is aimed at helping companies not retrench employees and help employees keep their job.

At Anlo we will stay true to our values of being ethical, responsible and nurturing and we will try and support our clients as much as possible to help them and their business through this trying time.

Please let me know if you have any questions and we will try and see if I can get more information for you from either the SAICA, SARS or other resources

It is important in this trying time that we communicate more and not shut ourselves off from everyone because we are scared. Use technology like Zoom, Facetime, WhatsApp etc. to communicate with your clients, family and friends, and that includes Anlo.

We want to help, but we won’t know about any problems unless you tell us. We will try our best to communicate with all our clients over the next couple of weeks but please reach out to us if you need to.
