Important Dates and New Staff: September Newsletter 😊

I love September! It's my birthday in September; and it is spring in September 😊 I hope you have all had an amazing September so far.

We would like to welcome Kylene and Eleanor to the Anlo team. Kylene is a young ambitious girl who is absorbing knowledge like a sponge from the team! She is currently an intern and will help around with tasks in the office until she is confident and can take on her own clients. We are very excited to see what this bright girl will bring to Anlo.

Eleanor will be working 3 hours per day as the Anlo finance lady and she is very familiar with Anlo's ways as she is returning to Anlo after being away for roughly five years.

Welcome ladies.

Matthew, Kylene, and Simone have all completed their Freeagent certification, so well done all of you! Freeagent is another accounting package (like Xero) and is a very useful accounting tool.

Reminders and Important Dates

  • Half Year EMP501 reconciliations to be submitted by the end of October 2021.
The reconciliations opened on the 13th of September and employers can now submit these returns. Please remember to ensure that all EMP201’s are filed and paid before the EMP501 reconciliation is submitted.
This is important because SARS has imposed administrative penalties for PAYE non-compliance specifically for employers who fail to submit the annual Employer Reconciliation Declaration Form (EMP501). The PAYE administrative penalty is calculated in one percent increments over a period of ten months from June 2021 in respect of the reconciliation ending 28/29 February 2021 and for subsequent years.

  • VAT Returns can now be submitted through Xero.
This is a lovely new feature which means you can now submit your VAT electronically through the Xero app to SARS. The best bit is that it locks the previous periods submitted and any adjustments or changes that relate to previous periods will be included in the current VAT report, making it 100x easier to reconcile the VAT report to the VAT Control account.

  • E-Compliance certificates for labour department compliance are now live. Employers needed this in the past to apply for tenders. Applying for compliance certificates will be hopefully much easier now. Please follow the link to find out more >> e-Compliance Certificate (labour.gov.za)

  • ‘The South African Revenue Service (SARS) wishes to remind non-provisional taxpayers to file their returns by using the safe and convenient digital channels that are available to meet the deadline of 23 November 2021.’
If you haven’t sent us your personal tax information, please do. We LOVE being super prepared and getting everyone’s returns filed as soon as possible.

  • As of 1 June 2021, the maximum earnings ceiling for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is R17,712 per month or R212, 544 annually.
For employees who earn more than this amount, the contribution is calculated using the maximum earnings ceiling amount. Therefore, the maximum contribution which can be deducted for employees who earn more than R17, 712 per month, is R177,12 per month. This increased from R148.72 to R177.12.
This is calculated by your payroll program and employees and employers contribute the same UIF amount per employee to the maximum ceiling amount.
i.e. Milly earns R18 000 per month. UIF contributions are calculated as 1% of the gross salary per month for the employee and 1% for the employer. So this is calculated as R180 if we use 1%. But because the maximum ceiling is R17 712, the maximum UIF contribution that Milly makes per month is R177.12 which is deducted from her salary. The employer also contributes R177.12 per month as employer contributions for Milly’s UIF.

  • There is a very useful guide on SARS website for businesses that have been affected by the looting and unrest in July 2021. Please find >> FAQs for businesses impacted by the unrest and looting in parts of KZN and Gauteng – South African Revenue Service (sars.gov.za)
